For Appropriate Student Placement... Busan Office of Education Opens 7 New Schools in March
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] A total of seven new educational institutions, including five kindergartens, one elementary school, and one middle school, have opened in areas such as Gangseo-gu, Dongnae-gu, and Saha-gu in Busan, where population continues to increase due to land development and apartment construction, to ensure proper student placement.
Among the newly opened schools, in Gangseo-gu are Myeongji Gaon Kindergarten, Myeongji Kkumjaram Kindergarten, and Ocean Middle School; in Dongnae-gu is Onsaem Elementary School; and in Saha-gu is Jisan Kindergarten, which is one of three purchased-type kindergartens.
Myeongji Gaon Kindergarten is the first kindergarten nationwide to have an experience building and operates with the largest scale in the country, consisting of 24 classes. It is also the first nationwide to assign two vice principals.
Although the school-age population in Busan is on a declining trend, the number of students in the Myeongji area continues to increase. With the opening of Ocean Middle School, it is expected that overcrowding among middle school students in the Myeongji area will be alleviated through distributed placement.
In Dongnae area, where apartment construction continues due to redevelopment, Onsaem Elementary School was opened in Oncheon 2 District to accommodate incoming students in the area.
Myeongji Gaon Kindergarten was built on a 12,500㎡ site in Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu, with a building area of 4,786㎡, a total floor area of 11,793.45㎡, and three above-ground floors, operating 21 general classes and 3 special classes.
The kindergarten operates a separate experience building in addition to the teacher’s building to provide a variety of creative play-centered curricula tailored to the developmental stages of young children, serving as a platform for early childhood experience facilities centered in the Myeongji-dong area.
The experience building, with a total floor area of 4,857.56㎡ and consisting of one basement and three above-ground floors, includes six themed indoor experience zones such as “Land of Wind,” an indoor swimming pool for young children, and an outdoor sensory playground called “Ogam Playground,” providing diverse learning environments suitable for future education.
The experience building will undergo pilot operation from March to April and will be opened and operated for kindergartens across the Busan area starting in May.
Myeongji Kkumjaram Kindergarten is a standalone kindergarten built on a 3,903㎡ site in Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu, with a building area of 1,647.88㎡, a total floor area of 4,061.91㎡, and three above-ground floors, opening with 12 classes.
Ocean Middle School was built on a 14,600㎡ site in Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu, with a building area of 4,415.48㎡, a total floor area of 11,814.72㎡, and four above-ground floors, operating 30 general classes and 1 special class.
An outdoor terrace with a sea view is installed on the 2nd to 4th floors of the main building. Inside the main building, a wide resting space called “Kkumnarae Step,” shaped like stairs, is created on the 2nd and 3rd floors to allow students convenient access on each floor.
Onsaem Elementary School was built on a 10,228.50㎡ site in Oncheon-dong, Dongnae-gu, with a building area of 4,654.48㎡, a total floor area of 11,017.21㎡, and five above-ground floors, opening with 33 general classes and 1 special class.
