Courier Union Issues Final Ultimatum to Agency Alliance for Dialogue Deadline at 3 PM Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) National Courier Workers' Union (Courier Union) urged the CJ Logistics Agency Union to engage in dialogue by the 2nd. They stated that if the Agency Union remains unyielding, they will continue with a larger-scale struggle.
On the afternoon of the 1st, the Courier Union held a press conference in front of the CJ Logistics headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, saying, "To show our willingness to dialogue, we lifted the sit-in protest on the first floor of the headquarters yesterday, but the Agency Union criticized us with 'extreme remarks,'" adding, "If they do not come to the table by 3 p.m. tomorrow, the responsibility for the catastrophe lies entirely with the Agency Union."
The Courier Union lifted the sit-in protest at the headquarters after 19 days the previous day. The Agency Union demanded the suspension of the strike and a return to work on-site, stating, "Only lifting the illegal occupation while continuing the strike is a selfish decision that ignores the suffering of the public."
Yoo Sung-wook, head of the Courier Union's CJ Logistics branch, said, "Since the 23rd of last month, we have held six rounds of talks with the Agency Union, but we could not help but doubt whether they had a sincere attitude," emphasizing, "We will respond to dialogue with dialogue and to struggle with struggle."
Meanwhile, Kim Seul-gi, representative of the Non-Union Courier Alliance, composed of courier workers not affiliated with the union, criticized in a statement that day, "The current situation is a disaster created by the Democratic Party of Korea and the Moon Jae-in administration," adding, "If the Democratic Party and the government had immediately suppressed the Courier Union with public authority, this would not have happened."
