Jepyungwi, News Partnership Review Results... 1 Content, 4 Stands, 23 Search Sites Passed
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] In the news partnership review conducted by the Naver·Kakao News Partnership Evaluation Committee (Je-pyeong-wi), one news content company, four newsstand companies, and 23 news search companies passed the evaluation.
Je-pyeong-wi disclosed the results of the news partnership and sanction review on the 28th.
From October 25 to November 7 last year, Je-pyeong-wi accepted partnership applications from media outlets wishing to partner for news content, newsstand, and news search.
For news content and newsstand partnerships, a total of 112 media outlets applied (Naver 79 [content 45, stand 41, overlap 7], Kakao 65), with 32 overlaps. Among them, 74 media outlets (Naver 68, Kakao 48, overlap 32) that passed the quantitative evaluation underwent qualitative evaluation for about two months starting December 10. As a result, one news content and four newsstand media outlets passed the evaluation. The pass rate based on the initial number of applicants was 4.46%.
For news search partnerships, a total of 295 media outlets applied (Naver 250, Kakao 181, overlap 136). Among them, 202 media outlets (Naver 181, Kakao 152, overlap 131) passed the quantitative evaluation and underwent qualitative evaluation, resulting in 23 media outlets (Naver 7, overlap 16) passing the evaluation. The pass rate based on the initial number of applicants was 7.8%.
Category changes were applied for by nine media outlets in total (Naver 1, Kakao 8). Six media outlets (Naver 1, Kakao 5) that passed the quantitative evaluation underwent qualitative evaluation, but none passed.
In the second half 'news content partnership' review, media outlets that failed but whose final evaluation scores were in the top 10% among failed outlets and scored 75 or above can reapply for the 'news content partnership' review in the first half of 2022.
In such cases, the names of the applicable media outlets and their final scores are not disclosed separately; the 'News Partnership Evaluation Committee' individually notifies the respective media outlets through each portal company.
Je-pyeong-wi also conducted a re-evaluation of four media outlets that had accumulated six or more penalty points for fraudulent activities as of December last year. As a result, two news search media outlets passed the evaluation, and one newsstand media outlet had its partnership status changed.

The re-evaluation cycle is three months and is conducted according to procedures and methods equivalent to those for new partnership evaluations. Among the evaluators' scores, the highest and lowest scores are excluded, and the average score must be 80 or above for 'news content partnership,' 70 or above for 'newsstand partnership,' and 60 or above for 'news search partnership' for a media outlet to pass. If the re-evaluation score does not allow maintaining the existing partnership area, the area is changed according to the score. However, if the re-evaluation score is below 60, the contract is terminated.
