Ukrainian President's Office: "Discussing Meeting Place and Time with Putin"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] On the second day of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, February 25 (local time), Ukraine announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are discussing the location and time of a meeting.
According to the daily newspaper The Guardian and others, Serhiy Nykyforov, spokesperson for the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated on his social media (SNS), "Ukraine is ready to talk about a ceasefire and peace. That is our permanent position."
Spokesperson Nykyforov said that the sooner the meeting takes place, the higher the chance of returning to normal life. He added, "I also want to refute claims that we refused the meeting," and "We accept President Putin's proposal."
Earlier, the Kremlin (the Russian Presidential Office) had expressed its willingness to send a high-level delegation to Minsk, Belarus, for negotiations with Ukraine. Subsequently, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed, "The Ukrainian side said they would consider the idea of negotiating in Minsk, then counter-proposed to hold the talks in Warsaw, Poland, and then cut off contact."
