Dong-Eui University Opens 16th Branch for Busan Regional Industry-Academic Cooperation

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Dong-Eui University Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center held the opening ceremony of the "Busan Regional Industry-Academia Cooperation Branch No. 16" on the 24th at the Prime Convention Multipurpose Hall on the first floor of the Dong-Eui University Industry-Academic Cooperation Building.
Busan City and Busan Technopark are establishing a collaborative governance system among industries, universities, and local governments with the aim of advancing regional industries and expanding industry-academia cooperation.
With the goal of opening 50 branches to promote innovative growth of the artificial intelligence industry in the southeastern region, development of AI convergence technologies, and training of specialized personnel, 15 branches were opened last year, followed by the opening ceremony of the 16th branch at Dong-Eui University.
The Busan Regional Industry-Academia Cooperation Center Branch No. 16, the Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center, will serve as a hub for a virtuous cycle structure of regional industry-academia cooperation by operating regional intelligent information service industry-academia research groups utilizing technological innovation resources.
The event was attended by Dong-Eui University President Han Su-hwan, Vice President for External Affairs Kim Seon-ho, Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center Director Jeong Seok-chan, Big Data Artificial Intelligence Center Director Kim Seong-hee, Busan Technopark President Kim Hyung-gyun, Policy Planning Director Kim Young-bu, Regional Industry-Academia Cooperation Director Won Gwang-hae, Industry-Academia R&D Business Cooperation Team Leader Kim Yu-seok, Busan City Regional Industry-Academia Cooperation Division Head Lee Soon-jung, Epin CEO Jeon Young-mi, V-Dream CEO Kim Min-ji, Finet CEO Moon Seok-hyun, and Total Softbank Director Son Chun-mok.
Dong-Eui University President Han Su-hwan said, "I hope to create an AI industry-academia cooperation ecosystem by utilizing the regional industry-academia cooperation branches to respond to the demands of local companies and industry-academia cooperation and to connect networking with AI-related companies through exchange meetings."
Busan Technopark President Kim Hyung-gyun said, "Joint research with local companies and operation of in-service training courses greatly contribute to industry-academia cooperation, so we will expand the infrastructure through more exchanges."
Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center Director Jeong Seok-chan said, "As the Dong-Eui University Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center enters its second phase, we plan to continue many activities for the development of regional industries."
Since July 2020 until 2027, the Dong-Eui University Artificial Intelligence Grand ICT Research Center has been receiving 18.7 billion KRW in funding from the Ministry of Science and ICT and Busan City to develop innovative convergence technologies for AI intelligence based on the industrial demand of the southeastern region and to train specialized personnel.

The graduate program in Artificial Intelligence currently operates with 43 master's students and 5 doctoral students, and in March this year, 21 master's students and 5 doctoral students are expected to enroll.
