People Power Party Files Complaint Against Lee Jae-myung for Spreading False Information... "Not Aiding But Conspiring, Not Responsibility But Assault"
Reported to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and Election Commission for Violation of the Public Official Election Act
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The People Power Party has filed a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office against Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, accusing him of spreading false information over a phrase included in his election leaflet.
On the 25th, the People Power Party stated in a notice, "To protect the public's right to know and uphold election justice, we have taken a series of measures against the dissemination of false information using candidate Lee's election leaflet."
The People Power Party filed an objection with the National Election Commission regarding the election leaflet explanation and reported candidate Lee for violating the Public Official Election Act. They also filed a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office for spreading false information (violation of the Public Official Election Act).
According to the People Power Party, candidate Lee wrote in the 'Candidate Information Disclosure Data' section of the election leaflet, "During an interview by a broadcasting PD with the candidate who was the executive committee chairman of the special preferential allocation case task force, the candidate was asked for the name of the prosecutor in charge and important details of the case and provided them. However, after a legal dispute, it was ultimately ruled that he aided impersonation of the prosecutor." The People Power Party argues this is false information because candidate Lee was involved in conspiracy, not merely aiding.
The People Power Party explained, "According to the Supreme Court ruling, conspiracy is defined as 'an agreement between two or more persons to jointly execute an illegal act,' which is entirely different from the 'aiding' that candidate Lee claimed. Moreover, since candidate Lee is a lawyer who handled criminal cases involving co-perpetrators such as joint injury and joint intimidation, and given that the problems with the election leaflet have been widely covered by the media, it is very difficult to view this as negligence."
They also protested candidate Lee's statement in the 'Criminal Record' section, where he wrote, "When the Seongnam City Council discarded the ordinance to establish Seongnam City Hospital, which was initiated by over 10,000 citizens, by a quick vote in 47 seconds, the candidate protested together with the citizens and took responsibility as a co-representative of this movement." The People Power Party argued that this was not responsibility due to his position as co-representative but that he committed the crime of 'obstruction of official duties by special means.'

They stated, "He did not simply bear responsibility because he was a co-representative; he unlawfully entered the Seongnam City Council, occupied the council members' seats inside the meeting room, verbally abused and assaulted public officials, threw nameplates, kicked chairs, and caused property damage, thereby physically obstructing the legitimate execution of official duties by the council." They criticized, "This implies a false impression that he was punished merely because he was a co-representative despite not committing violent acts, which suggests false information."
