The Uijeongbu District Court Criminal Division 11 (Judge Jo Sang-eun) announced on the 25th that it sentenced A (37), who was indicted for defamation under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, to a fine of 1 million won on the 17th.
A was summarily indicted with a fine of 1 million won last year but appealed. After requesting a formal trial, the court handed down the same sentence. Neither A nor the prosecution appealed the verdict, making the sentence final.
The court explained the sentencing, stating, "The defendant used the information network with the intent to defame the victim by publicly revealing false facts, thereby damaging the victim's honor."
Earlier, A was accused of posting plausible false information on the online community 'Ilgan Best Storage' (Ilbe), claiming to be a classmate of former Minister Cho's daughter.
Investigations revealed that A accessed Ilbe from an office in Gyeonggi Province and posted such content.

Regarding this, former Minister Cho stated at the time, "Considering the mental health of viewers, I will not introduce the trash-like post content, but it was the worst sexual violation that can be done against a woman," adding, "Freedom of expression does not grant the right to maliciously and basely spread false facts that seriously damage another's honor."
