Yoon, who was reaffirmed near the end of the administration, will lead the museum once again. The term for the director, a high-ranking public official with a fixed term, is three years.
Since debuting as an art critic through the Dong-A Ilbo New Year's Literary Contest in 1982, Director Yoon has worked as an art critic for over 30 years. During his previous term as director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, he promoted domestic and international exchange exhibitions and collaborative projects to spread the Korean Wave in art.
Some in the art community criticize this reappointment as a last-minute "entrenchment appointment" by the outgoing administration. An art industry insider said, "Considering politically biased curated exhibitions, workplace harassment issues, and conflicts with labor unions during Yoon's term, the reappointment is a decision that is difficult to understand."
