North Korea Military Parade Possibly Held Next Month on Taeyangjeol
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] North Korea is expected to hold a military parade on April 15 to mark the 110th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's birth (Day of the Sun).
Voice of America (VOA) reported on the 24th, based on satellite images taken two days earlier by the satellite imagery service 'Planet Labs' of the parade training ground north of Mirim Airfield in Pyongyang. The photos released by Planet Labs show about 100 vehicles parked in formation in two open areas in the northwest of the training ground, and up to 300 troops distributed in multiple formations in the center and northern parts of the training ground.
Considering that North Korea usually prepares for one to two months at this training ground, modeled after Kim Il-sung Square, before holding a military parade, it seems highly likely that the parade will take place.
In the past, North Korea has held large-scale military parades on significant anniversaries of Kim Il-sung's birth, such as the 100th anniversary in 2012 and the 105th anniversary in 2017, which are milestone years occurring every 5 or 10 years.
