From Department Stores to Convenience Stores... NFT Craze in the Distribution Industry
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Amid the rising craze for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), retail companies such as Shinsegae Department Store and CU are launching various promotions reflecting consumers' interest.
According to the industry on the 24th, Shinsegae Department Store is the first in the retail industry to produce 1,000 NFTs on its own and give them to customers. They created five 10-second videos of flower images in collaboration with a US 3D artist.
Customers using the department store app can enter once a day until the 6th of next month, with winners selected on the 9th and NFTs sent to their wallets on the 17th. Upon the first entry, customers also receive discount coupons for Shinsegae Department Store's food and beverage facilities. Shinsegae plans to hold an event in mid-March to give away NFTs created from a Prada model photo shoot featured in Shinsegae Magazine for free.
Hyundai Department Store will also exhibit NFT art using blockchain technology on a 10-meter-high large screen at the ‘Busan International Gallery Art Fair Preview’ exhibition held at The Hyundai Seoul until the 6th of next month.
CU is introducing NFTs created in collaboration with famous character artist RayRay, marking the first such initiative in the convenience store industry.
The first NFTs are a special hero series with unique abilities. The three types are ‘Candy Lover,’ who helps spread love by delivering candy; ‘One Plus One,’ which duplicates items every time a purchase is made; and ‘Caramel Camel,’ who improves people's moods by delivering caramel.
