Incheon Aims for 41% Share of Public Childcare Infrastructure... Expands 93 National and Public Daycare Centers
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City will significantly expand its public childcare infrastructure this year.
The city announced on the 23rd that it plans to invest 20.2 billion KRW this year to expand 93 public childcare facilities, including 63 national and public daycare centers, 10 public-type daycare centers, and 20 Incheon-type daycare centers.
As a result, Incheon's public childcare infrastructure will increase from 659 facilities at the end of last year to 752, raising the proportion of public daycare centers among all daycare centers from 36.6% to 41.7%.
For national and public daycare centers, the city will build one new facility, long-term lease three centers, establish 34 mandatory centers within new apartment complexes with over 500 households, and convert 25 private daycare centers in apartment management buildings to national and public centers.
The city plans to focus on converting private daycare centers into national and public facilities, saving about 1.5 billion KRW in construction costs and shortening the construction period by 2 to 3 years to respond quickly to childcare demand.
Converted facilities will receive support for daycare equipment costs and improvements to community facilities for residents.
