The Federation carried out free disinfection services more than 12 times periodically at 1,356 small business locations nationwide through professional disinfection companies, and supported one-time cleaning services such as signboard cleaning and front glass cleaning.
This project utilized 597 million KRW donated by Seegene, a COVID-19 diagnostic kit specialist company, to the Community Chest of Korea (Love Fruit Social Welfare Community Chest).
From October last year until last month, the Federation focused on on-site disinfection starting with densely populated shopping districts with high foot traffic and extended to small alleyway commercial areas that were blind spots for disinfection. The project aimed to alleviate consumers' anxiety, promote safe consumption, and revitalize the local economy.
Mr. Kim Jong-deuk, who has operated a mart in Guro-gu, Seoul for 27 years, participated in this management crisis overcoming support project. Mr. Kim said, "With weekly disinfection, we were able to create an atmosphere where we could welcome customers with peace of mind," adding, "I am very satisfied because they also carried out signboard cleaning, which is difficult for small business owners to do alone."
Oh Se-hee, President of the Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise Associations, stated, "Until now, small business owners have been managing disinfection at their stores at their own expense, but the support from the Community Chest of Korea (Love Fruit Social Welfare Community Chest) has been a great help in disinfection."
President Oh explained, "This is not just relying on the government and local governments, but a measure for small business owners to protect their own stores and proactively overcome the COVID-19 crisis," adding, "It is part of a private autonomous responsibility disinfection effort."
