[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, PD Yoon Jin-geun] "Immediately stop the ambition to invade Dokdo!"
On the 22nd, civic groups held a protest rally in front of the Embassy of Japan in Korea. Organizations such as Heungsadan Dokdo Protection Headquarters, Dokdo Protection Federation, and Republic of Korea Dokdo Association held a rally in front of the former Japanese Embassy in Jung-hak-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, urging the Japanese government to abolish Takeshima Day and stop historical distortion.
Takeshima Day is observed every year on February 22nd and was established by Shimane Prefecture in Japan to claim sovereignty over Dokdo. Takeshima (竹島) is the Japanese name for Dokdo.
The groups shouted slogans condemning Japan's historical distortion, such as "Japan must abolish the false Takeshima Day ordinance and immediately stop the ambition to invade Dokdo!", "Japan must stop the serious provocative acts of war that infringe on territorial rights and apologize a hundredfold to the people of the Republic of Korea!", and "Japan must immediately stop its acts of aggression that threaten peace on the Korean Peninsula!"
On the 22nd, when the Japanese government held the 'Takeshima Day' event, a member of a civic group protested by tearing a paper with the Rising Sun flag drawn on it in front of the former site of the Japanese Embassy in Jongno-gu.

Heungsadan stated, "Japan is still unable to awaken from its imperialistic nostalgia, inciting territorial disputes and distorting history, which shocks the Republic of Korea," urging the Japanese government to immediately abolish Takeshima Day and the distorted history textbooks.
The Dokdo Protection Federation said, "The future generation, who studied with distorted history textbooks, will have a wrong view of the world," and demanded, "Japan will inevitably be isolated in the international community. Immediately abolish the Takeshima Day ordinance and stop historical distortion."
In 2005, the Shimane Prefectural Assembly in Japan enacted the "Ordinance to Establish Takeshima Day," marking the 100th anniversary of the unilateral incorporation of Dokdo into Shimane Prefecture's administrative district on February 22, 1905. The Takeshima Day events have been held since 2006.
