[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 22nd, President Moon Jae-in chaired the National Security Council (NSC) and the Foreign Economic Security Strategy Meeting regarding the Ukraine situation and urged, "Make every effort to protect overseas nationals."
On the same day, President Moon presided over the full NSC meeting and the joint meeting of the Foreign Economic Security Strategy Meeting, received reports on the trends and response measures related to the Ukraine situation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the National Intelligence Service, and discussed future actions.
In his closing remarks, President Moon said, "We must continuously and thoroughly monitor the impact of the Ukraine situation on the international situation and our country on a whole-of-government basis and maintain an immediate response posture. Furthermore, we ask for active efforts to ensure that the Ukraine situation does not negatively affect the peace process on the Korean Peninsula."
President Moon emphasized the protection of overseas nationals, adding, "The government must maintain a firm preparedness posture to protect our citizens and safeguard national security under any international circumstances."
He also said, "Please closely monitor the situation and take necessary measures to minimize the negative impact on our economy and to ensure that the public can carry out stable economic activities, while closely consulting with related countries," and "each ministry should provide sufficient explanations to the public so that they accurately understand the situation and do not have excessive anxiety."
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other related ministries reported that they would closely monitor the Ukraine situation and maintain close communication and consultation with related countries including the United States to carry out ▲ rapid safety notifications for Korean nationals ▲ thorough and flawless implementation of evacuation and withdrawal plans ▲ close cooperation with neighboring countries for safe departure.
