[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] The number of COVID-19 cases among South Korean and US military personnel continues to rise daily. The cumulative number of confirmed cases among South Korean and US troops is expected to soon exceed 20,000.
According to the Ministry of National Defense on the 22nd, 585 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed among South Korean military personnel. By branch, the confirmed cases are 368 in the Army, 94 in the Air Force, 51 in the Ministry of National Defense direct units, 44 in the Marine Corps, 23 in the Navy, and 5 in the Ministry of National Defense. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the military is 13,256, of which 3,899 are currently under management.
According to the United States Forces Korea (USFK) Command, from the 15th to the 21st, 119 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed. Among them, 98 cases are related to US military bases in Korea, and the remaining 21 are imported cases from overseas.
