Facility for Protecting and Adopting Stray Cats... 'Gyeonggi-do Cat Adoption Center' to Open in July
Installation of Animal Hospital, Adoption Counseling Room, Outdoor Playground, and Walking Trail
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that "the 'Gyeonggi-do Cat Adoption Center,' a dedicated shelter and adoption facility for stray cats, is scheduled to open at the end of July in the Eco Farm Land pet complex within Section 4 of the Hwaseong-si Hwaong Reclamation Area."
The Cat Adoption Center will be built on a 47,419㎡ site with a total floor area of 1,406㎡ on one above-ground floor, investing 8.9 billion KRW of provincial funds. It will include an animal hospital, cat shelter, adoption consultation room, and isolation rooms.
Plans also include creating a multipurpose exercise yard for pets to freely run and play, an outdoor playground, and walking trails.
The center will take on the role of facilitating free adoptions of cats over seven weeks old, selected from animal shelters within the province that are scheduled for euthanasia. These cats will undergo health checkups, vaccinations, neutering surgeries, animal registration, and socialization procedures at the center's animal hospital.
In addition to operating a temporary foster care system for young or injured cats, the center will support stable adoption settlements through post-adoption care such as caregiving education, behavioral and disease consultations for adoptive families.
The province plans to prevent the occurrence of stray cats, expand cat adoptions, and improve negative perceptions of stray cats by supporting animal protection volunteer activities, promoting respect for pet life education, and conducting animal protection publicity activities.
