View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, who had temporarily suspended campaigning due to an accident involving a campaign worker, will visit the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions for a 1-night, 2-day schedule starting on the 22nd. He appears to be focusing on his own campaign while clearly distancing himself from the 'opposition unification.'
Ahn, who is from Busan, began his regional schedule at 10 a.m. by paying respects at the Nekgirim Yard of Busan Democracy Park to commemorate the Busan Democratic Uprising. In the guestbook, Ahn wrote, "Ahn Cheol-soo, son of Busan, will inherit the spirit of Busan’s predecessors and make a better Republic of Korea."
Hong Kyung-hee, spokesperson for the People’s Party, explained, "(Ahn) declared the breakdown of unification talks and expressed his intention to complete the race, so he plans to start from the southern region and bring the Ahn Cheol-soo wave to Seoul and the metropolitan area."
Ahn originally planned to head to Busan after registering as a candidate with the Election Commission on the 13th, but the plan was postponed after his spouse, Kim Mi-kyung, a professor at Seoul National University, tested positive for COVID-19.
The Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) area has been a key focus for Ahn, who has emphasized completing the megacity to capture votes. Ahn has promised to expand transportation networks, including the establishment of a new southern-central railway, saying, "To achieve national balanced development, the Bu-Ul-Gyeong megacity must become a successful model." On this day as well, he said through his campaign, "If Bu-Ul-Gyeong becomes a global maritime convergence city and forms a metropolitan economic zone, Busan can develop much further."
On the same day, Ahn plans to visit merchants struggling due to COVID-19 by going to the International Market and Gwangbok-dong Fashion Street. He will then hold a local press conference at the Busan City Council and visit Bujeon Market, Haeundae Station Plaza, and Haeundae Beach to communicate with citizens.

The People’s Party continues to repeat its stance that there is 'no possibility' of unification with Yoon Seok-youl, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party. Kwon Eun-hee, the floor leader of the People’s Party, dismissed the possibility on KBS Radio that day, saying, "There have been no discussions regarding unification, and there is no possibility that such discussions will proceed."
