Asia's First 'UN Women Gender Equality Center' to Be Established Domestically in the First Half of the Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The United Nations Women’s Gender Equality Center will be established in South Korea in the first half of this year, marking the first such center in Asia.
On the 22nd, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced that the South Korean government and UN Women have completed the signing and exchange procedures for the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment and operation of the "UN Women Gender Equality Center."
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has been discussing the establishment of the UN Women Gender Equality Center since 2019. The center director and staff are currently being recruited, and after preliminary preparations such as office leasing, operations are expected to begin within the first half of the year.
The UN Women Gender Equality Center is a UN organization that addresses gender equality agendas. Once the center is established domestically, it is expected to expand international influence in the field of gender equality, promote excellent policies related to women, human rights, and peace, and enhance human exchanges and policy cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
The UN Women Gender Equality Center performs functions such as research and development, education and training, and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region in areas including ▲ women’s economic empowerment ▲ elimination of violence against women ▲ women, peace, and security ▲ gender statistics ▲ humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction.
It provides evidence for the development of gender equality policies and conducts education and training for public officials to strengthen the capacity to implement gender equality policies. It also promotes the spread of a culture of gender equality through campaigns by building cooperative relationships with various organizations.
The recruitment process for the center director, finance, and administrative staff is currently underway, and job postings for staff responsible for research and development, education and training, and building cooperative relationships are expected to be announced in the first quarter.
