Boseong-gun Focuses on Crop Growth Management Guidance to Prepare for Winter Drought
All-Out Efforts to Minimize Farm Damage Through Proactive Technical Support for Drought Preparedness
[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced on the 21st that it is making every effort to manage the growth of winter crops to minimize damage to agricultural products caused by the persistent drought during the winter season.
Since January, the rainfall in Boseong-gun has been 1.0mm, which is 43.9mm less than last year and 34.8mm less than the average, making it necessary to carry out damage prevention activities mainly for barley and garlic/onions.
To prevent drought damage, garlic and onions should be covered with straw or rice husks on dry fields to suppress moisture evaporation, or water should be supplied by installing movable sprinklers. Barley and wheat fields should be watered in the drainage channels and then drained immediately.
For winter crops, topdressing fertilizer should be applied as soon as the frozen ground thaws, adjusting the amount of fertilizer according to the growth condition to avoid excessive application. Instead of directly spreading solid fertilizer, dissolving it in water can prevent fertilizer loss and enhance its effectiveness.
