President Moon: "All Our Athletes Who Did Their Best at the Beijing Olympics Are Winners"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] President Moon Jae-in encouraged the athletes who participated in the Beijing Winter Olympics, which concluded on the 20th, saying, "All of our athletes who gave their best in every moment are admirable and proud," and added, "Everyone is a winner."
In a post on SNS that day, President Moon said, "To the 65 representatives of the Republic of Korea and coaching staff who heated up the ice and snowfields with their passionate spirit, thank you very much for your hard work."
President Moon reflected, "All the athletes fully demonstrated their honed abilities and gave their all to shine the Taegeuk mark. Short track once again proved to be the world's best, and our team earned nine medals, surpassing our goals, with good results in speed skating as well."
He also sent messages of support to individual athletes. President Moon said, "Speed skating mass start athlete Park Ji-woo created a resonance greater than a medal by helping a fallen competitor. Kim Bo-reum showed a wonderful performance by shaking off the burden in her heart," and added, "I hope only happy days lie ahead for these two athletes."
He emphasized, "Cross-country skier Lee Chae-won deserves big applause for completing her sixth Olympics. The performances of figure skaters Cha Jun-hwan, Yoo Young, and Kim Ye-rim became a beauty admired worldwide."
President Moon said, "The fighting spirit shown by skeleton athletes Jeong Seung-gi and Kim Eun-ji, luge athletes Im Nam-gyu and Aileen Frische, and snowboarder Lee Sang-ho warmed all our hearts. The women's curling 'Team Kim' is already a pride of the Republic of Korea," and evaluated, "The impressive flight of the youngest team member, snowboarder Lee Chae-woon, also raises expectations for the future."
President Moon said, "Regardless of whether they won medals or their colors, our athletes who confidently gave interviews saying they were 'satisfied with their own performances' were truly admirable," and added, "They comforted the people going through difficult times."
