Yeosu Coast Guard, Drowned Person Near Jonghwa-dong Found Dead at Sea
A person in their 20s who fell into seawater dies at a nearby hospital after rescue
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Yeosu Maritime Police in Jeonnam announced on the 18th that "a drowning incident occurred off the coast of Jonghwa-dong, Yeosu, and despite a swift rescue effort, the victim unfortunately passed away."
According to the Yeosu Maritime Police, at around 2:55 a.m. that day, a nearby tourist heard sounds of someone falling into the sea and calls for help near the Hamel Lighthouse in Jonghwa-dong, Yeosu, and reported the drowning incident to 112.
The maritime police dispatched a coastal rescue boat and rescue team, and found the drowning victim, Mr. A (in his 20s), floating in the sea just 9 minutes after receiving the report, rescuing him using rescue equipment.
At the time of rescue, only Mr. A's head was visible above water and he was unconscious. He was moved to the coastal rescue boat where emergency measures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED) were immediately administered. He was then handed over to the 119 emergency medical team and transported to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately passed away.
A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, "We are investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident through statements from the reporter and nearby witnesses at the time of the incident."
