Yoon Seok-yeol: "If the country is bruised by corruption, the next generation could fall into a third-rate nation"
Raising Allegations Against Candidate Lee Jae-myung, Criticizing "What Will Happen to the Country?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, visited Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on the 17th and criticized Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea. Yoon said, "If the country is bruised by corruption, the next generation could really fall into a third-rate nation."
On that day, Yoon raised suspicions about Lee’s tenure as mayor of Seongnam during a campaign near Yatap Station in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. He pointed out, "Claiming urban development but allowing someone who invested 350 million won to receive 850 billion won is something I have never seen anywhere on Earth, let alone in South Korea," adding, "No local government has ever done anything even remotely similar." He continued, "They boldly did this, and then say they recovered 500 billion won, but did they recover the infrastructure built through urban development?"
Yoon then raised suspicions related to Baekhyeon-dong and the Seongnam FC sponsorship funds, saying, "Is this administration and local politics?" and criticized, "They managed Seongnam City with a population of 1 million like this; what would happen if they ran the country of 50 million like this?"
Yoon said, "Crimes have a time lag, so some matters from the previous administration are handled by the next, but when incidents break out in the media and the public is fully aware, regardless of status, they should be dealt with during the term?that is the tradition of South Korea’s liberal democratic rule of law," and criticized, "Then how can we elect as a presidential candidate someone who ignored corruption where 350 million won turned into 1 trillion won, and let them lead the government for five years?"
Yoon also criticized Lee’s statement that he would implement economic revival policies modeled after U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt.
He said, "Looking at the Democratic candidate’s economic vision, basically they want to heavily tax and pour hundreds of trillions of won, and through New Deal-type policies, the government directly invests in industries to revive the economy," adding, "Even in the 1930s America, that didn’t succeed. The economy only recovered because World War II broke out. How can they recklessly criticize President Roosevelt? Americans would laugh."
