[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] A COVID-19 cluster infection occurred at Anyang Prison in Gyeonggi Province, resulting in a total of 128 confirmed cases including staff and inmates.
On the morning of the 17th, the Ministry of Justice stated, "On the 13th, two staff members at Anyang Prison were initially confirmed positive, and follow-up and full testing were conducted from the 14th to the 16th." They added, "As a result, 10 staff members and 116 inmates were additionally confirmed positive." The current total cumulative confirmed cases are 12 staff members and 116 inmates.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the confirmed inmates were immediately isolated. Close contacts were isolated by being dispersed into separate housing units, and to reduce infection risk and lower inmate density, about 200 non-infected inmates were transferred and dispersed.
