[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seon-hee] Jeong Gi-hwan, the 38th Chairman of Korea Racing Authority (59), held an inauguration ceremony on the 16th and said, "The first step to restoring public trust must begin with a thorough reflection on our previous methods of resolution."
According to the Korea Racing Authority on the day, Chairman Jeong stated in his inaugural speech, "I will take on this heavy responsibility amid the management crisis caused by the suspension of horse racing due to COVID-19." Following the departure of former Chairman Kim Woo-nam, who caused controversy due to verbal abuse incidents, Chairman Jeong emphasized the "need for innovation in the internal and external environment, including management normalization, creation of social value, and strengthening of integrity and ethical awareness," the Authority reported.
Furthermore, Chairman Jeong announced, "We will deploy all organizational capabilities to prioritize online betting ticket sales."

Chairman Jeong previously served as a member of the Agricultural Policy Reform Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2017 and as a member of the Presidential Policy Planning Committee. From 2019 to 2021, he served as a standing auditor of the Korea Racing Authority and was appointed chairman this year.
