"Additional Nutrition Management Guidelines Published for Various Blood Disease Patients"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Catholic Hematology Hospital at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital announced on the 16th that it will provide evidence-based dietary information to patients with various hematologic diseases, including multiple myeloma, starting with the publication of the "Multiple Myeloma Nutrition Management Guidelines."
The newly published guidelines were developed through consultations between the medical staff and the professional nutrition team at the Catholic Hematology Hospital of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital to provide more accurate information by compiling the most frequently asked dietary questions from multiple myeloma patients.
The guidelines are organized into nine sections aiming to ensure adequate nutrient intake to meet nutritional needs and prevent or correct nutritional problems, as well as to modify dietary habits to minimize symptoms and complications and enhance treatment effectiveness. The sections include topics such as disease and nutrition, dietary restrictions for immunocompromised patients, and clinical nutrition therapy recommendations.
Professor Min Chang-ki of the Department of Hematology, who was the lead author, stated, "The most common questions from multiple myeloma patients in the clinic are about appropriate diets and the suitability of individually purchased health supplements. We will continuously identify patient inquiries from clinical practice and strive to update the guidelines regularly, not just as a one-time effort."
