[Olympics] Kim Yuna Targets Valieva: "Athletes Violating Doping Rules Should Not Compete"
"Every Athlete's Dream Is Precious" Voices of Criticism Over 'Doping Allegations'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] “Athletes who violate doping rules cannot participate in competitions."
On the 14th, 'Figure Skating Queen' Kim Yuna (32) criticized the decision to allow Kamila Valieva (Russian Olympic Committee), who is under doping suspicion, to participate in the Olympic individual event.
On the same day, Kim Yuna posted on her Instagram with a black image, writing in English, “Athletes who violate doping rules cannot participate in competitions.” She added, "This principle must be upheld without exception. The efforts and dreams of all athletes are equally precious.”
On this day, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the appeals of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and International Skating Union (ISU) against the Russian Anti-Doping Agency's (RUSADA) withdrawal of the suspension sanction on Valieva’s participation in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Valieva’s doping sample, submitted during the Russian National Championships last December, tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine. Trimetazidine is a medication for angina that has stimulating effects, recognized to enhance athletes' physical efficiency, and is designated as a banned substance by WADA. The International Testing Agency (ITA) confirmed this fact on the 8th, the day after the ROC won the figure skating team event.
