Gimhae City will display the climate crisis clock on electronic billboards installed at Dong Gimhae and Seo Gimhae IC, as well as at the Gimhae City Health Center.
The climate crisis clock indicates the remaining time until the Earth's temperature rises by 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to the pre-19th century Industrial Revolution level due to carbon dioxide emissions causing global warming. The 1.5-degree mark represents the last chance to prevent a climate disaster.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) considers that the current global temperature has risen significantly compared to the Industrial Revolution era, leaving only 0.4 degrees Celsius before reaching the 1.5-degree threshold set as the limit.
The IPCC estimates that, at the current rate, the remaining 0.4 degrees will be reached in 7 years and 5 months, making the climate crisis uncontrollable.
