Taehwagang Riverside Reed Colony to Be Promoted as a Tourist Attraction in the COVID Era
Ulsan City Improves Growth Environment Through Reed Cutting Work with Eco-Friendly Recycling Companies
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City is developing the Taehwagang Riverside Reed (Muleoksse) Colony into a tourist attraction.
On the 14th, Ulsan City announced that it will carry out the "2022 Taehwagang Reed Cutting Operation" to improve the growing environment of the Taehwagang Riverside Reed area until April 14.
The reed colony spans a total area of 216,000㎡ across three districts of Ulsan: Jung-gu 38,000㎡, Nam-gu 52,000㎡, and Buk-gu 126,000㎡.
The "Muleoksse" reeds planted here are perennial grasses. If the old reeds remain, their natural regeneration ability decreases, leading to a reduction in the number of individuals and stunted, crooked growth, which hinders healthy development.
Additionally, the accumulation of reed sediment layers can deteriorate water quality, negatively affecting the aquatic ecosystem.
For these reasons, Ulsan City has been conducting reed cutting operations every spring.
To recycle resources and reduce costs, the reed cutting is done jointly with an environmentally friendly product manufacturer. The company recycles the cut reeds into coffee sticks, fruit picks, pillow stuffing, and other products.
After completing the reed cutting operation, Ulsan City plans to remove underbrush, perform weeding, and continue environmental cleanup activities to transform the Taehwagang Riverside Reed area into a tourist attraction.
