Starting from the outermost lane, the team fell behind to fourth place early on but rose to third place with fifteen laps remaining. The athletes were pushed back to fourth place with eight laps left due to a fierce chase by Canada. However, the final skater, Choi Min-jeong, demonstrated fierce stamina and quickly moved up to second place. Overcoming evaluations that the team was weaker than in previous years, they continued their medal streak and upheld the pride of a short track powerhouse. Since this event was officially adopted at the 1992 Albertville Olympics, the team has won six times.
