According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, the total number of new COVID-19 cases confirmed nationwide in 17 cities and provinces from midnight to 9 PM was 52,288. This is an increase of 2,567 cases compared to 49,721 cases reported during the same time on the previous day, marking the highest number ever recorded for this time frame. It is also the first time that more than 50,000 cases were confirmed by this time.
Compared to 26,273 cases confirmed during the same time one week ago on the 4th, the number has nearly doubled, and compared to 14,472 cases two weeks ago on the 28th of last month, it is about 3.6 times higher. Since there is still time until midnight when the count closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced on the 12th is expected to increase further.
