Bucheon-si, Transforming the Outdated Kkumbit Library into a Book Culture Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that it has been selected for the '2022 Book Culture Center Establishment and Operation Project' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Publication Culture Industry Promotion Agency.
This project aims to provide local residents with the right to enjoy reading culture and to offer startup and creative spaces to local publishing companies, selecting one local government nationwide each year.
Bucheon City was chosen as the project target due to its strengths as a cultural city based on cultural creative city infrastructure and its strong commitment to service innovation in municipal libraries to meet new citizen demands in the pandemic era.
The city plans to invest a total of 800 million KRW, including 480 million KRW in national funding, to transform the outdated Kkumbit Library (3rd floor) into a Book Culture Center.
It will create spaces such as a publishing experience area, reading rest area, publishing startup support space, reading culture program room, and a corner dedicated to writer Kang Jeong-gyu, allowing citizens to enjoy reading and publishing culture in a comfortable environment.
In particular, various creative programs supporting writers and citizens dreaming of publishing startups, children's picture book creation, e-book publication, and independent publishing linkage programs will be operated.
