On the 10th, as the number of new COVID-19 cases exceeded 50,000 for the first time ever, continuing to set daily records, citizens lined up in a long queue at the temporary screening clinic in Seoul Plaza for testing. According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH), as of midnight that day, the total number of new confirmed cases was 54,122, which is 2.4 times higher than the 22,906 cases reported a week earlier on the 3rd. According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on that day, a total of 49,721 confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
This is an increase of 1,284 cases compared to the previous day's 48,437, marking the highest record for the same time period.
Widespread infections accumulated over the Lunar New Year holiday, weekends, and holidays have resulted in a large number of cases during the weekdays.
The count by 9 PM on this day is about 2.2 times the number recorded at the same time one week earlier on the 3rd (22,345 cases). Compared to two weeks ago on the 27th of last month (11,804 cases), it is approximately 4.2 times higher.
Since there is still time until midnight when the count closes, the number of new confirmed cases to be announced on the 11th is expected to increase further and exceed 50,000 again.
Earlier, the number of new confirmed cases announced at midnight on the 10th was 54,122, surpassing 50,000 for the first time.
By 9 PM on this day, new confirmed cases were 31,214 (62.8%) in the metropolitan area and 18,507 (37.2%) in non-metropolitan areas.
By city and province, only two regions, Gyeonggi with 16,291 cases and Seoul with 11,531 cases, each recorded over 10,000 cases. Additionally, Incheon had 3,392 cases, Busan 2,360, Daegu 2,063, Gyeongbuk 1,929, Gyeongnam 1,871, Chungnam 1,596, Daejeon 1,423, Gwangju 1,385, Jeonbuk 1,260, Chungbuk 1,156, Gangwon 1,077, Ulsan 795, Jeonnam 790, Jeju 469, and Sejong 333 cases.
