[Olympics] Chloe Kim Achieves First Ever Consecutive Wins in Women's Snowboard Halfpipe (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] Korean-American athlete Chloe Kim (USA) achieved the first-ever back-to-back Olympic gold medals in women's snowboard halfpipe.
On the 10th, Chloe Kim scored 94.00 points in the women's snowboard halfpipe final at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics held at Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, China, securing the gold medal. This marks her second consecutive Olympic victory following the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
This is the first time since snowboarding became an official event at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics that a female snowboarder has won two consecutive gold medals in the halfpipe.
After scoring 87.75 points in the qualifiers the day before and advancing to the finals in first place, Chloe Kim dominated her competitors by earning the only 90-point score of 94.00 in the first run. The second place in the first run was Sena Tomita (Japan) with 86.00 points.
In the second and third runs, Chloe Kim made mistakes by falling during her performance, finishing with scores in the 20-point range. However, since the final format takes the best score out of three runs, Chloe Kim had a comfortable lead with her high score from the first run.
In the second run, Spain's Queralt Castellet scored 90.25 points, closing the gap to 3.75 points. Chloe Kim performed last in the third run, and since none of the previous performers surpassed her first run score, she had already secured the gold medal and performed with a relaxed mindset.
Ultimately, there was no doubt Chloe Kim would take the gold medal. Castellet took silver, and Tomita earned bronze with 88.25 points.
