Woman Who Set Fire at Home While Burning Husband's Photo in Divorce Lawsuit Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison

The Changwon District Court Criminal Division 4 (Presiding Judge Jang Yoo-jin) announced on the 10th that it sentenced Ms. A, who was prosecuted for setting fire to her own house after burning a photo of her husband and becoming emotionally agitated, to two years in prison.
According to the Changwon District Court, in February of last year, Ms. A burned a photo of her husband, who was involved in a divorce lawsuit, using a gas stove at her home in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, while trying to organize her husband's belongings.
While incinerating the photo, she became emotionally agitated, set fire to a rag, and threw it into the master bedroom, causing part of the house to catch fire, leading to prosecution.

The court stated, "The defendant's crime likely caused significant anxiety, fear, and inconvenience to the neighbors who had to evacuate," and added, "Considering that serious risks to the lives, bodies, and property of residents could have occurred, the culpability is not light."
