On the 10th (Korean time), Tae-moon Roh, President of Samsung Electronics' MX Division, stated this ahead of introducing the new strategic smartphone 'Galaxy S22' series at the online 'Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2022' event. He reflected on the meaning of 'technology' connecting the world amid the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed his commitment to fulfilling the mission as a global tech company.
President Roh also added, "Samsung Electronics follows the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and actively collaborates with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)." He mentioned efforts to achieve the MX division's eco-friendly vision, 'Galaxy for the Planet.' Samsung Electronics recycled discarded fishing nets for the first time while making Galaxy smartphones. The company expects that by using recycled materials in the S series, it will collect about 50 tons of discarded fishing net waste this year alone.
"The ultimate smartphone... rewriting the rules of innovation"
Regarding the new strategic smartphone Galaxy S22 series, he explained, "It will be the ultimate smartphone that connects people worldwide while enabling free creation and sharing of content," and added, "We will rewrite the rules of innovation."
Among the models, the one President Roh showed particular confidence in was the top-tier 'Ultra' model. Among the three newly unveiled S22 series models (Standard, Plus(+), Ultra), it is the premium model. The S22 Ultra model incorporates the S Pen, a legacy of the 'Galaxy Note,' marking the first time the S series has included an S Pen. Camera functions have also been upgraded, including 8K video recording that combines image sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
In addition to President Tae-moon Roh, various Samsung executives appeared to explain the details, including Stephanie Choi (Choi Seung-eun), MX Division EVP and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Robert Kyncl, YouTube Chief Business Officer (CBO), also appeared as a partner, praising, "Samsung and YouTube have an excellent partnership," and stating, "One of the best ways to watch YouTube is using Samsung devices."
From Netflix to Batman... Focus on BTS
The collaboration videos also heightened public interest. Samsung Electronics collaborated with major partner Netflix to feature a scene from the popular drama 'Bridgerton,' where Queen Charlotte first encounters the Galaxy S22, showcasing the S22 and its rear camera in detail. Queen Charlotte, looking at the S22 product in a painting brought by an inventor, expressed great interest, saying, "It's very beautiful," and asking, "When will it be released?"
Through a video made in collaboration with the movie 'Batman,' Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab S8 series. On this day, Samsung unveiled not only the smartphone S22 but also the new tablet PCs S8 series (Standard, Plus(+), Ultra). The S8 Ultra model, the first tablet PC to bear the 'Ultra' name, features the largest-ever 14.6-inch large screen and an S Pen with a 30% faster response speed compared to its predecessor. Starting with this Galaxy Tab series, the Android OS update cycle will increase from the previous three times to four times.

At the end of the entire video, BTS, with its global fandom, appeared as a complete seven-member group. Earlier, Samsung Mobile had raised expectations by posting photos of BTS on its Twitter account and mentioning the Galaxy Unpacked event date. This is not the first time Samsung has collaborated with BTS for an Unpacked event. Last year, Suga rearranged 'Over the Horizon' and appeared in the video at 'Galaxy Unpacked 2021.' However, as with last year, whether BTS special editions, which are of great interest to fans, will be announced remains undisclosed. Samsung released the 'Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition Package' in June 2020, which sold out online within an hour.
