View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Lee Sang-ho (27, High1), a member of the South Korean men's national snowboard team, was unfortunately eliminated in the quarterfinals of the parallel giant slalom at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
On the 8th, at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, China, Lee Sang-ho lost by a margin of 0.01 seconds to Viktor Vylegzhanin of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in the men's snowboard alpine parallel giant slalom quarterfinals, failing to advance to the semifinals.
Competing on the red course, Lee Sang-ho showed a consistently confident race. However, near the end of the race, his body caught the gate, slowing his speed, and he ultimately lost by a narrow margin to the Russian athlete.
Lee Sang-ho advanced to the round of 16 as the overall first place in the qualifiers with a combined time of 1 minute 20.54 seconds from the first and second runs. He recorded 39.96 seconds in the first run and 40.48 seconds in the second run, ranking first in both races. He was the only athlete to record a time in the 30-second range during the qualifiers, making the result even more disappointing.
The snowboard alpine parallel giant slalom is conducted in a tournament format starting from the round of 16, where two competitors race head-to-head and the winner advances to the next round, rather than being decided by time.
