A New Education and Culture Hub... Gijang-gun Receives Approval from Ministry of the Interior for Ilgwang-myeon’s Promotion to Eup
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Hwang Duyul] Gijang-gun received final approval from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 3rd for the promotion of Ilgwang-myeon to an "eup" (town).
Ilgwang-myeon met the conditions for promotion to eup as the population exceeded 20,000 as of August 2020 with the development of Ilgwang New Town, fulfilling the legal requirements for urban population and industrial household composition.
As of the end of last month, the current population of Ilgwang-myeon is 25,779.
To proactively respond to increasing administrative demands, Gijang-gun formed the "Ilgwang Eup Promotion Task Force" led by the Gijang-gun governor at the end of 2020 and has been actively pursuing the eup promotion since then.
After establishing a basic plan for eup promotion and collecting opinions from residents and the Gijang-gun Council, requests for feasibility review and approval of Ilgwang-myeon’s eup promotion were submitted to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Busan City in November last year.
Gijang-gun received the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s final approval for the eup promotion on the 3rd.
Gijang-gun will enact the "Ordinance on the Establishment of Ilgwang-eup and Changes to the Jurisdictional Area of the Eup" in March.
In April, the final procedures for eup promotion will be completed with the opening ceremony of the Ilgwang Eup Office.
Gijang-gun stated, “With the promotion of Ilgwang-myeon to eup, the construction of the Ilgwang-myeon new government building scheduled to start this year, the Ilgwang Library expected to be completed in 2023, and the Ilgwang Bit·Mul·Kkum Education Happiness Town, a complex public facility expected to be completed in 2024, Ilgwang-myeon is expected to emerge as one of the central cities of Gijang-gun.”
