Jeong-jae Lee, former president of Gwangju National University of Education, held a press conference on the 8th at the briefing room of the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education to officially announce his candidacy for the position of Superintendent of Education of Gwangju.

On the same day, Lee held a press conference at the briefing room of the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education and said, "As a member of Gwangju educators, when I think about the future of education in Gwangju, I feel an urgent need that things cannot remain as they are. Therefore, I will run for the Gwangju Superintendent of Education election to raise a new flag for education."
He expressed strong determination, saying, "I will always be an educator focused on the field, believing that the answer lies in the field, and based on the active and voluntary participation of field educators, I will newly lead the development of Gwangju education."
Lee emphasized the six core educational tasks (schools with learning, schools with dreams, schools with life, safe schools, schools of the future, schools for all) and set the goal of educational policies that improve the quality of education.
He stressed, "For Honam Gwangju to become a cradle of talent, we must strengthen character education, creative education, and innovative education to nurture customized talents such as smart talents and digital talents needed by society, as well as future talents capable of making a great leap into the world."
Additionally, he stated, "The four stakeholders of education will respect and care for each other, making schools spaces where students and teachers dream and cultivate happiness," and expressed his aspiration to "nurture well-rounded students equipped with comprehensive competencies such as healthy physical strength, proper character, and professional abilities."
In particular, he emphasized that to create a sustainable educational ecosystem, he will prepare various practical strategies through "feasible policies and educational administration in cooperation with parents."

Lee previously ran for the Gwangju Superintendent of Education elections in 2010 and 2014, and after nurturing future generations as a professor at Gwangju National University of Education, he served as the university president.
