Geuinmo, Geochang County Governor, Announces 22nd COVID-19 Prevention Measures
Implementation of Special Measures in Phases 1 and 2... Urging Restraint in Gatherings, Participation in Vaccination, and Compliance with Quarantine Rules
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam, announced the local COVID-19 occurrence status, response situation, and future action plans on the 7th.
On the 7th at 11 a.m., Geochang-gun held a COVID-19 briefing in the county office situation room to announce these action plans and requested the cooperation of residents to comply with COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
At the briefing, the county announced that a total of 267 confirmed cases have occurred from January 29 to February 7. Due to the rapid spread of Omicron and increased local infection spread caused by gatherings and movement during the Lunar New Year holiday, they announced the response measures and future countermeasures.
Previously, on February 4 and 6, the mayor and vice mayor held three emergency countermeasure meetings to establish phased measures in response to the COVID-19 spread.
The county plans to apply the first-phase action plan from February 7 to 13 and will apply the second-phase action plan depending on the future trend of COVID-19 spread.
The first phase involves proactively conducting rapid antigen tests on about 1,280 people from the 7th to the 8th to prevent administrative gaps. Rapid antigen testing equipment will be distributed to six schools scheduled to start the semester.
Some schools are required to submit PCR or rapid antigen test results proactively. Schools that have not started the semester will consider online classes, and for 20 schools planning graduation ceremonies, only students will participate in online graduation ceremonies in classrooms without parents.
Inspections on restaurants, karaoke rooms, cafes, pubs, and other places subject to the quarantine pass will be strengthened by organizing inspection teams comprising 50% of public officials daily to check compliance with quarantine rules from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Violations will result in strong administrative measures such as business suspension and fines.
Related department staff will also frequently check compliance with quarantine rules at religious and sports facilities and take strong action if violations occur. Publicity on quarantine rules will be strengthened using smart village broadcasts, video conferences, Geochang-gun SNS, electronic billboards, and neighborhood newsletters.
If the COVID-19 spread does not ease despite the first-phase measures, the county plans to apply the second-phase action plan starting from the 14th.
The second phase involves canceling or postponing all events, education, and projects hosted or subsidized by the county and completely suspending the use of cultural, welfare, indoor, and outdoor sports facilities.
Rapid antigen tests will be conducted for all residents of Geochang-gun, prioritizing residents of Geochang-eup, where the proportion of confirmed cases is high, and later expanding to residents of the 11 townships.
