Indian National Singer Lata Mangeshkar Passes Away... Prime Minister Modi Also Mourns
India's national singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92, major foreign media including AFP reported simultaneously on the 6th (local time).
Mangeshkar was admitted to the intensive care unit of a Mumbai hospital on the 11th of last month due to COVID-19 symptoms and had been receiving treatment until she died that morning. The cause of death was reported as multiple organ failure.
Born on September 28, 1929, in Indore, Mangeshkar began her singing career at the age of 13 to support her mother and four siblings after her father passed away. Foreign media reported that during her 73-year singing career, she sang in over 1,000 films.
AFP reported that her songs are played every year at the official national 'Republic Day' commemorative events.
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs announced that Mangeshkar's funeral would be held as a state funeral and that flags would be flown at half-mast until the 7th.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on his Twitter account, "I am inconsolable." He added, "Kind and caring Lata has left us. She has left an irreplaceable void in our country," expressing his condolences.
