'70th Year of Reign' British Queen Hopes "Camilla Will Be Recognized as Queen When Charles Ascends the Throne"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom expressed her hope that when Prince Charles ascends the throne, his wife Camilla Copper Bowles will also receive the title of 'Queen Consort.'
On the 5th (local time), according to British media such as The Guardian and BBC, Queen Elizabeth made this statement in a declaration commemorating her 70th anniversary of accession.
The Queen said, "When the time comes for my son Prince Charles to become king, I believe you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support you have given me," adding, "I hope Camilla will faithfully fulfill her role as queen at that time."
Camilla has been a subject of interest regarding whether she will become queen or receive a different title, due to her past as Prince Charles's long-time lover, which was known as an extramarital affair.
Camilla officially married the Prince of Wales in 2005 after the first Princess of Wales, Diana Spencer, divorced in 1996 and died in a car accident in 1997, but criticism of her has continued within the UK.
