Chinese Media Report "A Friend Has Come from Afar" Announcing Putin's Arrival
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing, China, on the afternoon of the 4th.
According to Chinese media such as Pengpai on the 4th, the Russian presidential plane carrying President Putin landed at Beijing Capital International Airport.
President Putin originally planned to arrive in Beijing in the morning and hold a summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, combined with a luncheon. Chinese media broadcast the landing of the Russian presidential plane but did not report the landing time.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported at 3:54 p.m. that President Putin arrived at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. It also reported that the summit meeting with President Xi was underway.
While reporting President Putin’s arrival at Beijing airport, CCTV used the phrase "You peng zi yuan fang lai (有朋自遠方來)" in the subtitles, meaning "A friend comes from afar," emphasizing the relationship between China and Russia.
President Xi and President Putin will attend the Olympic opening ceremony held at 8 p.m. after the summit meeting.
