Gwanghwamun Area Transformed with Immersive Content
Ministry of Culture and Korea Creative Content Agency to Release Additional 'Gwanghwa Sidae' Content on the 4th
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on the 3rd that they will additionally release the 'Gwanghwa Era' immersive content on the 4th. 'Gwanghwa Era' is a project showcasing eight types of immersive content that combine cultural and tourism content with 5G immersive technology around the Gwanghwamun area in Seoul. It was planned to raise public awareness of immersive content and to make the historically symbolic Gwanghwamun area a hub for experiencing immersive content. Starting last month with 'Gwanghwa Pungnyu,' followed by 'Gwanghwa Won' and 'Gwanghwa In,' more content has been unveiled.
The newly released content includes 'Gwanghwa Jeoncha,' which explores time and space; the augmented reality (AR) tree 'Gwanghwa Su'; 'Gwanghwa Dam,' a game played while traveling around Gwanghwamun; and 'Gwanghwa Gyeong,' an interactive augmented reality content that tells hidden stories of Gwanghwamun.
Gwanghwa Jeoncha, opening at Sejong-ro Park, is content that combines panoramic screens with a 4-dimensional (4D) ride-type experience device. It allows users to experience dynamic video content depicting Gwanghwamun’s past, present, and future, as well as imaginary spaces such as underwater and outer space. An official explained, "The seat rotates 360 degrees, giving a sensation of floating in the air."
Gwanghwa Su, installed in front of the Seoul Shinmun building, is a participatory content applying augmented reality and big data technology to a symbolic sculpture 5.2 meters tall. When people leave stories on the Gwanghwa Era website, the branches and fruits visible through augmented reality fill up with their stories. Gwanghwa Dam is an augmented reality gamified content that uses Visual Positioning Service (VPS) to explore the Gwanghwamun area while completing missions. Six episodes unfold against the backgrounds of Gwanghwamun, Seoul City Hall Plaza, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
