[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] On the 3rd, the Korea Securities Depository announced that last year, the number of issuing companies participating in electronic registration of stocks was 1,445, the number of issued shares was 22.6 billion, and the issuance amount was approximately 51 trillion won.
The number of issuing companies increased by 26.3% compared to the previous year (1,144 companies), the number of issued shares increased by 3.2% compared to the previous year (21.9 billion shares), and the issuance amount surged by 90.2% compared to the previous year (27 trillion won).
Based on the number of issued shares last year, KOSDAQ-listed companies accounted for the largest share with 8,291.26 million shares (40.2%), an increase of 16.8% compared to the previous year (7,109.3 million shares). The highest growth rate in the number of issued shares compared to the previous year was among unlisted companies at 44.8%, registering 4,218.22 million shares. Based on the issuance amount, KOSPI-listed companies accounted for the largest share with 32.542 trillion won (64.1%), an increase of 121.8% compared to the previous year (14.6697 trillion won). The highest growth rate in issuance amount compared to the previous year was among unlisted companies at 172.9%, registering stocks worth 6.3919 trillion won.
Based on the number of issued shares last year, capital increase by paid-in capital accounted for the largest share with 5,886.37 million shares (28.6%), an increase of 25.6% compared to the previous year (4,687.54 million shares). In terms of issuance amount, capital increase by paid-in capital accounted for the largest share with 44.2038 trillion won (87.1%), showing the highest growth rate of 110.5% compared to the previous year (20.9994 trillion won).
In 2021, the number of new participants in the electronic securities system among unlisted companies was 331, an increase of 43.3% compared to the previous year (231 companies). The direct participation of non-deposited companies in the electronic securities system surged by 97.8% to 176 companies compared to the previous year (89 companies). The number of issued shares by new participants in the electronic securities system was 415.29 million shares, an increase of 120.1% compared to the previous year (188.66 million shares).

Based on the number of issued shares last year, the third-party allotment method accounted for the largest share with 2,744.83 million shares (46.6%). This was followed by shareholder allotment and public offering in order of issuance volume. The public offering method increased by 61.9% to 870.27 million shares compared to the previous year (537.37 million shares). Based on the issuance amount, the public offering method accounted for the largest share with 17.7201 trillion won (40.1%), with the highest growth rate of 208.8% compared to the previous year (5.7376 trillion won).
