Beautiful Seongbuk-gu Residents Taking on Cleaning and Disinfection to Welcome a Clean Seol Holiday?
Neighborhood Resident Groups Roll Up Sleeves for Special Disinfection and Street Cleaning Ahead of Holidays to Ensure a 'Safe Holiday'... Volunteering for the Community Amid Concerns of Large Waste Disposal and COVID Spread During the Holiday Period
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Residents of Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) are actively engaged in alley cleaning and disinfection in preparation for the Lunar New Year.
With significant household waste expected during the holiday period and an influx of outsiders anticipated, local community groups have rolled up their sleeves to clean the streets and carry out disinfection to ensure a healthy Lunar New Year.
On the 25th, the Wolgok 2-dong residents' association conducted voluntary cleaning and disinfection for the Lunar New Year. The Tongjang Council (President Lee Chang-hee) and the Dong Welfare University (Dean Yoon Jae-sung) took charge of cleaning, while the Saemaeul Leaders' Association (President Kim Dal-ho) handled disinfection.
The Tongjang Council and Dong Welfare University focused on areas around Hwarang-ro 19-gil, where illegal dumping is frequent, collecting trash around Unam Apartment and Wolgok Station. The Saemaeul Leaders' Association disinfected multi-use facilities such as bus stops near Wolgok Middle School.
Lee Chang-hee, president of the Wolgok 2-dong Tongjang Council, said, "At a time when all activities have shrunk due to COVID-19, it is rewarding that our Tongjang members have stepped up to make the neighborhood clean. I hope all residents can enjoy a joyful Lunar New Year."
Kim Dal-ho, president of the Saemaeul Leaders' Association, also stated, "Ahead of the major national holiday when many people gather and travel, we paid special attention to disinfection to prevent the spread of COVID-19."
The following day, the Jangwi 3-dong Autonomous Disaster Prevention Team (Leader Lee Jeong-seon) set out to ensure a clean and safe Lunar New Year. They carried out voluntary alley cleaning and COVID-19 regional spread prevention activities.
With rising resident anxiety over the recent spread of COVID-19 and restrictions on daily life, the autonomous disaster prevention team members took the initiative as a small practical measure to serve the community and residents through their first disinfection volunteer activity of the new year.
On that day, the members disinfected and cleaned major multi-use facilities such as the Seongbuk Youth Center, Gwangwoon Elementary School, Namdaemun Middle School commuting routes, Jangwi Senior Happiness Support Center, the second senior citizens' center of Jangwi 3-dong, Jangwi 3-dong Village Park, and bus stops, while also cleaning the alleys.
Lee Jeong-seon, leader of the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Team, expressed, "I am grateful to the members who wholeheartedly participated in special disinfection and alley cleaning for the safety and cleanliness of the village during the Lunar New Year holiday. I hope that through our small volunteer efforts, neighbors can spend a safe and comfortable holiday at home during these difficult times."
The Jangwi 3-dong Autonomous Disaster Prevention Team previously won the grand prize among 20 resident voluntary cleaning groups in the '2021 Resident Voluntary Cleaning Excellent Group Evaluation' hosted by Seongbuk-gu. They have been actively engaged in regional safety activities such as natural disaster prevention including floods and snow removal, risk monitoring of redevelopment vacant houses, and COVID-19 response disinfection.
