Hwasun-gun Supports Menstrual Products for Adolescent Girls... 144,000 KRW Annually
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeonnam Hwasun County will actively promote a new policy project to support the healthy growth and human rights protection of female adolescents by providing menstrual products starting in March.
According to the county on the 28th, this project was initiated to realize universal welfare for local adolescents.
Previously, in December last year, the county revised the 'Ordinance on Support for Female Adolescent Sanitary Products,' expanding the support target from low-income female adolescents to all female adolescents.
Accordingly, female adolescents aged 11 to 18 (born between 2004 and 2011) residing in the county will receive universal welfare benefits.
The number of beneficiaries this year is expected to be around 2,000.
Female adolescents attending schools within Hwasun County can apply at their respective schools in early March, while those attending schools outside the region or out-of-school female adolescents can visit the administrative welfare centers of their local eup/myeon starting from the 7th of next month to apply.
The support amount is 12,000 KRW per person per month (144,000 KRW annually), which will be provided twice a year in March and September in six-month installments via a local currency card (dedicated to menstrual products).
Female adolescents who are already receiving menstrual product voucher support from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family or support from other local governments are excluded.
The national government-supported project for low-income female adolescents' menstrual product support (hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family) will expand its target age range from 9 to 24 years old starting this year.
However, for those aged 19 to 24, support will be provided only for eight months starting in May.
A county official stated, “We expect this support project to contribute to the healthy growth and welfare improvement of local female adolescents. We will do our best to ensure that female adolescents do not worry about menstrual products every month and can enjoy a healthy life.”
