Gangwon-do, Special Surveillance and Crackdown to Prevent 'Environmental Pollution Accidents' During Lunar New Year Holidays
Inspection and Patrol of Facilities Discharging Large Amounts of Wastewater into Rivers from 1.19 to 2.2
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gangwon Province announced on the 18th that it will conduct special environmental pollution monitoring activities (January 19 to February 2) to prevent negligence in managing and supervising pollutant-emitting businesses before and after the Lunar New Year holiday, as well as illegal pollutant discharge taking advantage of this vulnerable period.
For businesses suspected of generating environmental pollutants, cooperation letters have been sent to ensure thorough environmental management, and special guidance and inspections will be conducted on 187 sites, including facilities discharging large amounts of wastewater near major rivers before the holiday.
Additionally, the province and 18 cities and counties will establish and operate situation rooms to prepare for environmental pollution accidents, and patrols will be strengthened around industrial complexes and vulnerable environmental pollution areas as well as surrounding rivers.
