[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 9th that it will hold a direct holiday market featuring specialty products from all eight provinces at Sangsaeng Sanghoe and Lotte Department Store from the 10th to the 31st in celebration of the traditional major holiday, Seollal.
First, at the ‘Sangsaeng Sanghoe’ store, a regional coexistence hub space where specialty products from all eight provinces can be purchased, a total of 549 products produced by 218 farms from 16 cities and provinces including Yeonggwang and Jeju will be sold. Seollal gift sets composed of representative local specialties such as Uiseong Saessak-sam (sprout ginseng), Yeonggwang Gulbi (dried yellow croaker), Wando abalone sets, and Jeju Hallabong, as well as ritual items like dried vegetables, traditional sweets, and traditional liquors, can be purchased at prices discounted up to 38% from the original cost.
At Lotte Department Store, through the Seolmajeung (Seollal Greeting) catalog for Seollal gift sets distributed at a total of 32 branches nationwide, customers can purchase nine items from nine farms across the country, including Wonju traditional oil sets and Gangjin dried shiitake mushroom sets, from the 10th until the 1st of next month.

Hwang Bo-yeon, Director of Seoul City’s Economic Policy Office, explained, “To promote the sales of excellent local agricultural specialty products during the Seollal holiday and to help local farms struggling to secure sales channels due to COVID-19, we have prepared this special exhibition. We will continuously support sales channels so that many good products can be distributed, creating an ecosystem where regions and Seoul, farmers and consumers all coexist.”
