[AK Poll] Centrist > Progressive > Conservative... 'Winning in the Center is Key to Presidential Victory'
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] When respondents were asked about their subjective ideological tendencies, the order was centrist-progressive-conservative. In terms of ideological tendencies, the proportion of centrists was the highest, indicating that the outcome of this year's presidential election depends on centrist public opinion.
Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion survey from the 28th to 29th of last month targeting 1,009 voters aged 18 and older nationwide (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, telephone interviews). The results showed that centrists accounted for 37.0%, progressives 31.5% (very progressive 4.5%, somewhat progressive 27.0%), and conservatives 23.0% (very conservative 3.5%, somewhat conservative 19.5%). Those who answered "don't know" accounted for 8.5%.
Progressives, conservatives, and centrists showed polarization according to generation, occupation, region, and party support.
First, among progressives, by generation, those in their 40s (42.2%) and 50s (39.4%) were prominent; by region, Honam (48.7%); by occupation, white-collar workers (40.0%); and by party support, supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea (59.0%) and the Justice Party (50.4%) had high proportions.
Among centrists, by generation, those in their 30s (44.1%) were prominent; by region, Chungcheong (51.1%), Gangwon, and Jeju (58.9%); by occupation, self-employed (44.3%); and by party support, supporters of the People Party (55.8%) and the Open Democratic Party (48.9%) had high proportions.
