France "62% of COVID-19 Cases Infected with Omicron"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 31st (local time), French health authorities announced that the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has overtaken existing variants such as Delta to become the dominant strain in France.
According to AFP news agency, French health authorities stated that "this week, 62.4% of all test results (among confirmed cases) showed characteristics consistent with the Omicron variant." At the beginning of last week, the Omicron rate in France was 15%.
France reported 206,243 new confirmed cases the day before. Although this is a slight decrease from the record high of 208,099 cases on the 29th, the number still exceeds 200,000.

Meanwhile, countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have already seen Omicron infection rates surpass 50-60%, making it the dominant strain. The number of Omicron infections in Korea also increased by 206 cases on the same day.
